I do think it's preferable to the second one, that being why I suggested
it rather than the other, but I'm not sure it's worth changing it right
off the bat.

The meaning of referring to the "type" of an option does seem clear to
me at first glance ('a' type, 'v' type, 's' type), and in any case if
it's not clear then it seems to me that that would also be a problem for
the current form; both forms refer to the type of the option, it's just
that one of them does so more verbosely.
