For AMD binary drivers it is still the only official API for any kind of
acceleration I believe. Admittedly for me it only works under valgrind due to
some memory management bugs.
Still, I'd put my vote in for keeping it supported a while longer, I
doubt some old cards will ever see they hardware acceleration being
ported to VDPAU or similar...
