reducing that value to 200 works well.
I wanted to try to see if it would work better for dvb, but 
unfortunately it seems that
indipendently from the demuxer used (29 or 35) I have the same problems: 
after a while,
and only on certain channels, mplayer complains of "too many video 
packets in the buffer",
and A/V desync grows so much that mplayer can't compensate anymore, so 
video freezes.
The same problem happens with certain live streams, so it must a be some 
mess in mplayer's demuxer
layer itself.
