Yes, there's a problem in this patch: it won't work with gcc-3.3
(yeah, it's a bad idea anyhow), gcc-2.95 an maybe others. I'd need to
add a test for the version of GCC used. The code already exists
nearby, so you just need to adapt it... ;-)
