Which one actually does it ? Every library around evolves and change,
and breaks API/ABI.
How much time the API/ABI needs not to change to be considered stable ?

When lavc/lavf ABI/API change, major version bumps.
It would be completely unefficient to stick with a bad API just for a
matter of API/ABI "stability".
