I know, I've had some fixes applied in FFMPEG too.

Well, there has been 2 patches added to CVS during the last 24h, one to 
support Apple gcc and one to support gcc 2.95. Why not fix gcc instead ?

Also, does C99 describe how inline assembly should be supported ?
