Well, for what it matters (which is little), I would somewhat prefer
">/dev/null", since it means you need to know about one commandline
option less for understanding what it does (and I've never seen grep -q
seen used elsewhere).
I only meant to say that the right solution for the problems on Solaris
specifically is "fixing" Solaris ;-)
