Why not? Does it crash? If so, do you have a gdb backtrace of it?

I can't see any reason why av_close_input_file() wouldn't work on
contexts opened with av_open_input_stream(). But then, I haven't tried
it...

Well, it is not a common function to call directly. But that doesn't
mean that it is the wrong thing to do.
