what about moving your solution into the resampler?

I mean, so that one can later replace the X->S16->Y code by something
better without having to change the API/ABI

Many things microsoft did are stupid, but not doing something just because
microsoft did it is even more stupid. If everything ms did were stupid they
would be bankrupt already.
