yes of course.  I'd like to at least make sure what I'm doing is
right first, or at least works for me ;)

this might take a while.  I'm trying to update the official ffmpeg
port/package, and I have to use the standard packages to do that.
interestingly, the person who has done most of the gmake updates is
also the person who reminded me that ffmpeg was overdue for an update.
