Speaking of which, I was recently talking with one of the Dirac guys
and this idea struck me as very interesting and potentially applicable
to Snow:

It works with or without OBMC and can apparently dramatically reduce
residual at relatively low MV cost.  The primary downside is that, at
least as implemented above, it results in arbitrary-size motion
compensation partitions.
