RTP/RTSP is insane because it uses a different encapsulation for every codec.
There is technically no sense at all for that. its just slices and frames with
timestamps no matter if a 20 year old codec or the latest and greatest.

Then prebuffering doesnt work, if i belive the recent discussions ...
And more generally it lacks a buffering model that would alow variable
bitrate to work halfway reasonable. other standards have that since MPEG-1
times
Also the RFCs are absolutely huge for the little bit of clear and unambigous
information in them.
