I'd also like to add that I have talked about this idea with many board
members at conferences and similar events.   This includes Carl Eugen,
Benjamin and Mans at LinuxTag, Michael when we met in Vienna and IIRC
the topic has been mentioned on ffmpeg-legal already.  I'm surprised
this old piece of news is able to surprise anybody...
