Hi everyone

You want to maintain mpegts, rtp, matroska, ffserver or some other
part in ffmpeg ?
Some part thats poorly maintained or you think you can maintain some
part better than the current maintainer?
Then this mail is for you!

In the past our maintainer system didnt work out so well because
maintainers lost interrest or didnt have enough time without ever
stepping back.
This problem is specific to a central repository (SVN/CVS). With GIT,
having a maintainer doesnt stop another from choosing to maintain the
same code in a different repository. You dont even need to be ffmpeg
developer ...

Why is it so important to have maintainers at all? Why cant we have
"everyone maintains everything"? The reason is specialization, its the
same reason why in real life we have bakers, butchers, doctors,
pilots and taxi drivers. If everyone would (try to) do everything,
quality would suffer very significantly.

So you did read this far and want to maintain some part?
Only thing you need is a git repository, github is currently the most
popular but any will do.
clone ffmpeg there, and start maintaining the code you want to maintain.
You can push your changes in there, review patches on the mailing list
and push them into your repository. When you are happy with everything
you just tell me to pull the changes into main.
The key-point is that your repository must be release quality, review
happens before you push changes in. (review happens by you as you are
the maintainer and in any way/form you choose to do it).
