The thing is we all lack time as well, any part maintained by someone
else means we can concentrate on other things that need work.
and with git theres nothing you can do wrong, if you have your own
clone of ffmpeg on github. Either your repo is an improvment, in which
case its merged or if not then you just keep working on it until you
are happy about its state. And heres another nice feature of this
development model, users can checkout your repo easily without it
being merged while a patch on the ML when its not applied is quite
a bit harder to access for a normal user. (it for example likely
wont even apply cleanly in a few months)
