I am using about a month old ffmpeg. It takes me sometime to move to a new 
ffmpeg because it goes thru a lot of testing before I can put it up.

I don't know if this is a known problem or not. It might not be because most 
display apps do not use transparent displays.

I do transparency whenever I can because these are used as overlays etc...

The IFF files that I have come to me as RGBA. The problem is that the alpha 
value is always zero for the sample IFF files I have.

If I ignore the fact that it might have transparency and just display it 
non-transparently, then it all displays as expected.

If you want me to get the latest ffmpeg and do more testing with that I 
will, but I suspect this problem may have been around awhile and still
