the patch breaks "make fate", please check that the (expected) changes
are ok and include updates to the checksums in the patch
also please generate the patch with
git format-patch or git send-email
that way it includes a author and commit message

Rewriting code that is poorly written but fully understood is good.
Rewriting code that one doesnt understand is a sign that one is less smart
then the original author, trying to rewrite it will not make it better.
