Not to hijack this thread, but talking about fate, I made some small mods to fate-run.sh so that it invokes wine if target_exe has a .exe extension, allowing at least part of the make check tests to work when cross-building for MS Windows.
Is there any interest for that?

Making the whole test suit work apparently requires generating sh scripts for the executables that are expected without .exe (but of course build *with* .exe). The scripts are extremely easy ( exec wine $0 "$@" ) but their creation probably requires hacking the configure procedure in ways I have no idea of (could also be handled by libtool of course).
