Imo, "third generation" only made sense in MPlayer-context.
"much more robust" also sounds slightly weird in FFmpeg-
context for me.

I saw a gigantic memleak when testing and valgrind reports 
invalid access in the mmx code.

The filter produces nice results here for a clean sample, 
thank you for working on this!
