iam not sure some of these changes are are a good idea
for example above the mask has to be calculated anyway what can be
gained from av_mod_uintp2() use here ?
i think this should be bechmarked when its in performance critical code

Awnsering whenever a program halts or runs forever is
On a turing machine, in general impossible (turings halting problem).
On any real computer, always possible as a real computer has a finite number
of states N, and will either halt in less than N cycles or never halt.
