This should already be possible using a filter string like

'drawtext=fontfile=...:text=%{metadata\\:lavfi.readvitc.tc_str}'

and with the patch from [1] you can even do

'drawtext=fontfile=...:text=%{metadata\\:lavfi.readvitc.tc_str\\:--\\\\\\:--\\\\\\:--\\\\\\:--}'
