 Your tests with MD5 do not prove anything, because you are still relying
 on default settings. And even if they have not changed, you are only
 proving that other enhancements have been made in the libx264 glue or the
 MP4 muxer since the previous version you are testing.

 Even without filters, it is lavfi who selects the pixel format. More
 precisely, what happens is that {{{encoder->pix_fmts}}} is used to set the
 formats accepted by the buffersink, while the input's pixel format is
 given to buffersrc. Then lavfi merges the formats lists, inserts the
 necessary conversion filter and selects the best common pixel format.
