I believe that your situation is that this doesn't currently work and that
a simple workaround (and additionally other workarounds) exist. I even
thought that it cannot work but Nicholas knows this code much better so I
am probably wrong.

Did you test it?

This question sounds to me very much like "Why should I use a simple way
of solving my problem if there is a much more complicated way that
currently doesn't work?"
