Comment (by maabaum):

 Apparently it's a quirk of Fedora and RedHat in general that the
 /usr/local lib directories are not listed in /etc/ld.so.conf.d/ by default
 and need to be added for specific installations if the installer uses
 those directories. Perhaps it's better handled by a note in the README.
