OK again

1. transcode with -async 1 and we hit this error when changing audio format/rates
2. transcode without -async 1 and we start getting lipsync errors, requiring a restart every few days

problem with 1 is that ffmpeg keeps running but dumps an enormous amout of error messages out, and no audio!!
