Yes.  Although going 10bit -> 8bit is a little noisy, seems to introduce
some 'striping' where every other pixel has a value +1 even though all
of the input pixels are exactly the same.  Rounding errors I suppose but
I don't know that I understand why.

I'm trying to start learning the source but it's doing my head in :)
