If you ask me there's no need for so many escape-characters.

ffmpeg -i <input> -vf "drawtext=fontfile='C\:\\Windows\\Fonts\\arial.ttf':fontsize=14:fontcolor=white:text=watermark_text" -f sdl -

and even

ffmpeg -i <input> -vf "drawtext=fontfile='C\:/Windows/Fonts/arial.ttf':fontsize=14:fontcolor=white:text=watermark_text" -f sdl -

work just fine for me.
