[Libav-user] muxing.c example

Using muxing.c example, I obtain this error:

"Unable to find a suitable output format for 'a.mpg"

The problem is at row "avformat_alloc_output_context2(&oc, NULL, NULL, 
filename);" of the muxing.c example.

Does muxing.c work well?
I tried:
a.mpg
a.avi
a.mpeg
a.ogg
but nothing.
