You're not wrong, this is indeed the version being protested
performance-wise.

I hadn't noticed the --enable-nonfree option in the makefile (which I
adapted from a stackoverflow post), and it doesn't appear to be necessary
for this app which only needs basic H264 & AAC decoding features. Certainly
it builds and runs fine without the option.
