Then why not simply reorder the $(CC) call?
%$(SLIBSUF): %.o
$(CC) $(LDFLAGS) -g -o $@ $(SHFLAGS) $<
-->
%$(SLIBSUF): %.o
$(CC) -g -o $@ $(SHFLAGS) $< $(LDFLAGS)
or
%$(SLIBSUF): %.o
$(CC) -g -o $@ $< $(SHFLAGS) $(LDFLAGS)
Looks much simpler to me...
