the gcc-apple is more strict that gcc-fsf on typecheck so it's debatable 
about who is right an who isn't. I still feel that this kind of checks 
are bogus and C++esque, but didn't cost me much adding those lines and 
I'm not such a prick to ifdef the whole thing and let it work just on 
gcc-fsf.
