Is that for a reason? I would propose adding RGBA555 for the alpha
channel containing format and remove the alpha channel from RGB555.

You didnt noticed that we only need a correct RGB555 and as backward
compatibility only I proposed RGBA555. Why do the hell would we need
alpha channel handling in rgb555?
