Please note this:
Distribution maintainers very often are not as knowledgable of ffmpeg
internals as ffmpeg developers. This very often results in "substandard"
patches, which when submitted or catched up by upstream very often get
refused in an rather unfriendly ways.
This is pretty frustrating for both distribution maintainers and ffmpeg
upstreams. Very often this results in very hesitant behavior and
hoarding of patches without bringing them up on this mailing list until
they have been improved to meet the requirements set by the ffmpeg
project. Very often distros also do not share the same requirements of
quality of changes which results in larger piles of patches in the
distribution package. Which makes the whole mess only more frustrating.
What I actually want to say: I have the impression that you (as in
ffmpeg developers) set very high bars for contributions. On the other
hand you seem pretty surprised if people willing to get ffmpeg in
distributions do not manage to meet this expectations. Which surprises
contributors.
Please give it a though.
