Hi all

The question about LTRs came up a few times over the past year(s)
but noone seems to have started a proper discussion about LTRs so this
mail is intended to change that.

Do people want LTRs ?
As far as i can tell, yes

Should we have LTRs ?
Id say, if people want them, yes sure

What do we need to have LTRs ?
Each LTR needs a maintainer, no maintainer, no LTR

What does such a maintainer need to do ?
keep track of security fixes (vissible on our security page / easy to
keep track of by keeping track of by subscribing to gitlog and
filtering notes about changes to said page)
Backport security fixes
Make new point releases
