@ C_14: Unfortunately I am not very current on media encoding formats.
This did the trick nicely: "$ ffmpeg -i video.mp4 -vn -c:a copy audio.m4a"

@ Steve: Thanks for your tip also. I ran your code without bitrate ($ ffmpeg
-i video.mp4 -c:a libfdk_aac -vn audio.m4a) just to test whether my
particular libfdk_aac was causing audio distortion. No observed problems,
the resulting audio was clean.
