Interesting stuff. The author should have at least tried to contribute
his changes to ffmpeg though. (And not claim authorship, where all he
provided was a small changeset.)

It seems it's an open issue regarding subtitles:

It's almost dead-easy extracting a changeset from those sources and
applying it on top of ffmpeg master HEAD. I haven't tried compiing yet
though. Since it's open source, I could just as well provide that
patchset as a fork/branch on Github. ;-)
